Mac screen recorder with sound
The Mac screen recorder is built in: press ⇧⌘5 (Shift-Command-5). Before macOS 27, though, it records a microphone but not the sound your Mac plays. Record Screen with Sound does: press ⌃⇧⌘R, pick a display or a window, and your Mac's audio is recorded with it. No audio driver needed.

What Record Screen with Sound does
The problem
The built-in recorder (⇧⌘5) can record your microphone, but before macOS 27 it can't record the sound your Mac plays. Videos, games and calls come out silent, or hollow if the mic picks up your speakers. The usual workaround is a virtual audio driver like BlackHole and a Multi-Output Device in Audio MIDI Setup, which you switch back after every recording.
With Record Screen with Sound
Press ⌃⇧⌘R, pick a display or a window, and it's recorded together with your Mac's sound. Press the shortcut again to stop, and the recording is shown in Finder.
- A display or one windowmacOS's own picker asks what to record. Stop with the shortcut, with Stop Recording in MrFixable's menu, or with macOS's recording indicator in the menu bar.
- Your voice tooOn macOS 15 and later, also record the microphone. It's saved as a second sound track, which QuickTime plays together with your Mac's sound and video editors can adjust separately.
- Ready to shareRecordings are MP4 videos at your screen's full resolution, saved to your Movies folder or any folder you choose. Show or hide the pointer, as you like.
Good to know
Needs Screen Recording access, which macOS requires for any app that records the screen. Recording your voice also needs Microphone access, which MrFixable asks for the first time.
Records a whole display or one window, not a part of the screen you drag out.
Recording the microphone needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later. Those recordings are MOV videos, because they hold two sound tracks.
On macOS 27 and later, ⇧⌘5 › Options › Include System Audio records your Mac's sound too, so this fix matters most on macOS 14.2 to 26. Sound from MrFixable itself is left out.
